Jessica Whelan is a creative Make Up Artist who is ready to take this world by storm. She has a real flair for Make Up and has the passion to take her career all the way. There is no limit to her talents and after studying hard she now wants to do make up work for Photo Shoots, Cat Walk shows and for theatrical productions.
When and how did you first get interested in your chosen talent?
My ever growing passion lies in the heart and soul of make-up, the art that’s behind it, and the freedom of self individualism that we can all experience with it. My passion lies with high fashion and catwalk make-up. I first grew interested in make up when I was 12, my mother is a talented creative woman in her mind and can create anything once she envisions it. I used to watch her every day putting her make up on and would beg her to put it on me from a young age and grew more interested as time went on. I then started copying her and she would buy me Cosmo and front cover magazines to copy models make up from. I began doing my friends make up in the school toilets and for any disco's we were going to, fancy dresses etc.
Was it something you had to work hard at or did it come naturally?
It came naturally, I love art and being creative, I just find it easy and it excites me.
What level have you got yourself and your talent to so far?
I have completed an ITEC Beauty Specialists course and felt It lacked on the creative side. Doing this course made me realize I was more suited towards a more creative outlet and make up has always been a way for me to express myself throughout my life. I wish I had realized this was to be my chosen path earlier in life.
How would you best describe yourself?
I’m Caring, I love to help others, I’m an approachable people person, outing and believe that with given the chance I can accomplish anything.
Who are your role models or who inspires you?
I’m inspired by my mother’s passion for creativity and her insight into makeup. She’s is an all over creative talented woman, anything she creates is expressed in her beautiful make up and interior designs. I gain inspiration from just listening to music, looking at real art deco objects, images such as birds, flower curved lines etc. and of course fashion from all of which I create something of my own.
What have been some of your highlights so far?
I feel that my highlight has yet to occur, I am still learning more everyday and my passion is still gowning. I’m looking forward to my opportunity to obtain my highlight in this profession.
How hard has it been to get where you are today?
Extremely hard. I feel that I was never given the chance to discover the make up artistry world and it wasn’t until recently I learned about the industry. I believe I have made some mistakes in my life due to the fact that I actually didn’t know that the industry was out there, because of this reason I made the wrong decisions by choosing to do an interior design course and beauty therapy course and wasting valuable time and money. Having discovered my vocation in life a theatrical, film and media make up course is out of my reach due to lack of funds.
What do you want to accomplish with your talent?
I want to crack into the industry and establish myself as a well known make up artist. I dream of doing high fashion photo shoots, catwalk, fantasy and theatrical make up.
What are your plans for this year?
I want to build my portfolio and make contacts in the industry and possibly obtain a job. I want to research into possible make up artistry courses I could afford in the near future hopefully.
